DDCAR FIELD DAY 2005
June 25 1:00pm - June 26 6:00pm
What is Field Day?
Field Day is a global radio event sponsored by the American Radio Relay League (www.arrl.org) since 1930.  It's purpose is to allow amateur radio operators (HAM) to test their equipment and operating abilities in adverse conditions in an order to contact as many operators as possible world wide.
This event is held at the same time all over the world!  In 2004 the US had over 30,000 participants submit event results!

For others, field day is THE event where they are able to demonstrate to other hams their proficiency in communications.  These proficiencies include Morse code, RTTY, PSK, SSTV, DX, and satellite communications!
It is also a way for local hams to get together as a team and establish a complete communications system for global contacts and message handling!

We (HAMS) only get 24 hours to operate globally, and we only get a few hours to setup our equipment.  We must use a locations that has no pre-existing equipment or public power, hence; FIELD DAY.  We are learning self supporting techniques and procedures that will prepare us for emergency operations, so we can better help those agencies that may need long range or short range communications.

Oh yea!  We have a great time doing this!  We spend our personal time, our personal funds, and are tested so we can have a license to do these things for FREE!

Where is DDCAR FIELD DAY 2005?
The Dyersburg Dyer County Amateur Radio Club (DDCAR) will have Field Day in the field (Provided by Dyersburg State Community College) on Parr Ave across from the hospital in Dyersburg TN.  (Sorry, there isn't an address but I hope to post the GPS coordinates and a map soon)

We will be preparing the site beginning Friday evening (there is a hay field there now) and Saturday morning.

If anyone has equipment for shelter, cooking, lighting, fans, power cords, ropes, free hands... Please come by.

What is HAM radio?
HAM radio is Amateur Radio.  If you think it's nothing, you might want to rethink that.  Consider Volunteer Fireman; they donate personal time and energy in pursuit of their passion: save lives!  Ham radio is a hobby with so many interests I cannot list them in this small space, so I'll list a few fields of interest: Satellites (the real ones that orbit), Bouncing radio signals off of the Moon and the tails of meteors, Study of radio waves through space and solid matter, designing electronics for communications, internet (Not WWW but the protocol itself!) For those who understand research ampr.org or 44.a.b.c and see!, Television, research digital modulations, Contesting, just a nice hobby to communication with every country for free....  This list is very large.
